CLASSY Bulldogs five-eighth Josh Reynolds has revealed the belief coach Des Hasler has showed in him since arriving at the club as a major reason he is playing near career-best football in the NRL.

Reynolds, a fringe NRL first grade player at the start of the season, was given an opportunity to impress by Hasler after being the coach's first pick five-eighth at the start of the season.

Since round one Reynolds has been in brilliant form, so much so many rugby league experts suggested he was a possibility to play State of Origin this year.

Despite being overlooked for the Blues, Reynolds told The Daily Mercury he was loving his football at the Bulldogs.

"I trained really hard in the off-season and when Des (Hasler) came to the club from the start he has given me a lot of confidence to take my game to a higher level," he said.

"With Des showing that type of confidence in me and giving me the crack at the start of the year I just want to keep showing him he made the right decision.

"Obviously you have to worry about your own form and backyard each week. I'm playing with a great group of blokes, who I'm just living it up with each week."

Reynolds said his side was keen to head to Mackay to take on the Storm after leaking late points in its last NRL win over St George.

"There are not many weaknesses there to tell you the truth in the Storm side," he said.

"I think in the match we have to work to our own strengths.

"We've been taking a lot of pride in our defence lately and we're not happy we let in 22 or so points on the weekend. We definitely want to make amends for that on Sunday.

"I cannot wait to head to Mackay. I've been there before to visit Ben (Barba) and I know the lads are all ready to get up there and play well."
