Origin will see 70% increase in pizza consumption

TONIGHT Queenslanders will be faced with one of their toughest decisions yet: Meatlovers or Hawaiian?

While our Origin athletes run, sweat and tackle, it seems the rest of the state likes nothing more than to munch on pizzas while watching the game.

Domino's Warwick owner Jeremy Winlaw said the night was usually up to 70% busier than the average Wednesday.

"Usually we expect to see around 200 pizzas, but on an Origin night it's around 650 to 700, sometimes 800," he said.

However, with 17 staff rostered on the night, Mr Winlaw affirms there will be no delay.

"Our oven fits 60 pizzas at a time, so I reckon if you order 15 minutes before you want it you should be right," he said.

"We already have around 50 pre-ordered."

On the three Origin nights last year alone Dominos stores across the nation made about 4million slices of pizza, more than a quarter of a million pieces of chicken and 52 tonnes of cheese.

That amount of cheese is the equivalent to the weight of 500 average footy players.

Though they are rostered on, Domino's staff on shift won't miss out on the action either.

"We get a TV down the back to keep an eye on the score," Mr Winlaw laughed.

Eagle Boys Warwick will be gearing up for a similar influx of customers.

"It's a traditional bloke's football meal with pizza and beer and you can share with a large crowd," owner Robyn Rye said.

"We make sure we are stocked up before the big event.".

The BBQ Meatlovers has proven being significantly more popular than other pizza choices at both franchises.
