Aussies say G’Day USA

New York.
New York. Jay Cronan

AS the strong Aussie dollar made international travel more affordable in the first half of 2011, Australian travellers' love affair with the US continued.

In fact, US cities made up half of the top 10 international destinations for Aussies, according to the Hotel Price Index from Hotels.com.

New York and Las Vegas topped the list, where hotel prices averaged $260AUD and $132AUD per night respectively. Los Angeles, San Francisco and Honolulu also featured in the top 10, despite experiencing price rises.

Londonfell two places to fifth and Tokyo slipped from fourth to 19th place following the devastating earthquake that hit Japan.

On average, Australians spent $166AUD per night on overseas accommodation, the third most out of any nationality after the Japanese ($173AUD) and Swiss ($169AUD).
