Brad and Lara win The Block

YOUNG NSW couple Brad Cranfield and Lara Welham have walked away from The Block with more than half a million dollars.

The sale of their property, the biggest of the four renovated Dorcas Street terrace houses in South Melbourne, for $1.62m earned them a record-breaking profit of $506,000.

"We can now pretty much go buy a block of land anywhere we want," said a stunned Cranfield.

"We could never imagine to have that much money. We could work the rest of our lives and never have that much money in the bank ."

Proving that nice guys can finish first, Brad and Lara were also voted as the best sports on The Block by the public.

It was a profitable night for all four teams, who earned a total of $1.7m in prize money.

Sophie Vine was speechless after she and her husband Dale pocketed a cool $355,000.

The result could not have been more different from the 2011 series of the reality renovation show, where only one of the four properties exceeded its reserve price at auction.

Host Scott Cam closed the grand final by announcing that the show had been renewed for another series but with a twist of all-star teams.
