Chance for city girls to impress

YOUNG, healthy women with a passion for promoting Australia on the international tourism scene...this is your time to shine.

Riverlink Shopping Centre in North Ipswich is gearing up to host the preliminary event for the 2012 Miss Tourism Australia pageant on September 13 and 15.

The event is open to girls from ages 18 to 26 and the winner will become Australia's global tourist ambassador.

"We are looking for a girl who can promote tourism for Australia and also be a great role model for young girls," Miss Tourism Australia national director Deborah Miller said.

"Basically we just want to promote great Australian young women.

"The current title holder is a 23-year-old girl called Myffy Scadden who is a doctor studying to be a surgeon.

"She also teaches dance to young five-year-olds."

The contestants will take to the stage to parade and be judged in three sections which include sportswear, spring fashion and a personality question and answer by a panel.

"The question and answer section is the highest scoring part of the competition on their personality. We ask questions about social and current issues," Ms Miller said.

"It is a beauty pageant so we are looking for a girl who looks healthy and lives that lifestyle. The girls don't have to be models. We are after everyday girls."
