Coast product signs for Arnold

SUNSHINE Coast product Zac Anderson says he signed with the Central Coast Mariners to work under mentor Graham Arnold.

The former Gold Coast United defender signed a two-season deal yesterday with the Mariners, ensuring his A-League career would continue despite the collapse of his former club.

Anderson's future looked clouded three months ago following the demise of United, leaving him without a contract.

However, he said he was over the moon to link with the Mariners and in particular coach Arnold, who he had struck up a rapport with recently.

Arnold approached Anderson, 21, after he turned out for the Australian under-23s against Iraq in March.

Anderson was keen to follow the coach wherever he went and elected to sign with the Gosford-based franchise only after Arnold rejected an offer last week from Sydney FC.

"After the season finished I was approached by a few clubs and I had a few decisions to make," Anderson said.

"But two things made up my mind for me - the environment at the Central Coast and their coaching.

"A massive part of the reason why I decided to head down there was Graham and his man management skills.

"Also, just the environment and the coaching staff and the players they have made the progression so much easier."

Anderson will move to the Central Coast immediately and begin pre-season training in July.
