Council keeps an eye on vandals through security cameras
SURVEILLANCE cameras have been installed outside the Stanthorpe Library and Art Gallery after an increase in vandalism.
Southern Downs Regional Council community services director Tony Minuti said the vandalism cases had increased over the last 12 months.
"Damage to the exterior lights, power points, air-conditioner units and gardens was relatively low level but it is now on the increase," Mr Minuti said.
"Early in the year a wheelie bin was placed near the underfloor of the library and set alight.
"This could have resulted in substantial damage.
"To assist with deterring this behaviour and evidence for any police matter that may arise from damage to the rear of these buildings, a camera surveillance system has beeninstalled."
