Crashed car stolen and burnt in Gatton

Thieves have broken into a Gatton panel beater and stolen a damaged car, only to dump it and set it on fire overnight on Wednesday.

Sergeant Tony Harm, acting officer in charge of Gatton Police, says the offenders broke into Gatton Motors Paint and Panel, in Industrial Road, Gatton, between 5.30pm Wednesday and 1.30am Thursday morning.

While inside the panel shop, the thieves stole three cameras from vehicles stored in the workshop for repairs, as well as car keys and a cash tin, and then cut a hole in the fence before towing a damaged silver 2007 Ford Falcon utility from the premises using another vehicle.

Sgt Harm says the offenders then towed the damaged car to the intersection of Ropely Rockside Road and Old Ropely Road, before dumping it in the creek there and setting it on fire.

Anyone seeing a damaged car being towed down either Woodlands Road or Tenthill Road towards Old Ropely Road on Wednesday night is asked to call Gatton Police on 5468 3266.
