Eight not on for Phelps

US superstar Michael Phelps has ruled out repeating his record Beijing haul of eight gold medals in the London Olympics.

A day after qualifying for the same eight events at the US trials, Phelps' coach Bob Bowman said his charge would not contest the 200m freestyle in London because the heats and semi-finals would clash with the final of the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Seven gold in London would give him a total of 21 - he won six in Athens in 2004
