First council meeting

TODAY is D-day.

All eyes and ears will be on the Southern Downs Regional Council chambers as the newly elected mayor and eight councillors meet for the first time since the election and our new deputy mayor is announced.

Mayor-elect Peter Blundell must make a tough decision between a wealth of knowledge in likely contender Ross Bartley, and strong numbers in top poller Jo McNally.

Killarney's Cr Ross Bartley, who polled second highest and brings years of experience to the table, has said he intends to put his hand up for the position.

Cr Jo McNally has also expressed her interest in the position.
