Couple stunned by lotto win
A GOONDIWINDI couple are in disbelief as they try to come to terms with winning $1.25 million in Saturday Gold Lotto's $30 million Mid-Year Megadraw at the weekend.
The woman who purchased the winning ticket said she and her husband have been playing Saturday Gold Lotto for years but never imagined they'd win such a huge amount.
"God almighty!" she exclaimed when she spoke with Golden Casket over the phone.
"We buy a QuickPick in Saturday Gold Lotto every week but never dreamed of this happening."
A Golden Casket spokeswoman said the winning woman said she was so shocked when she first heard the news that her legs actually gave way.
"I went straight to the floor, then I had to tell my husband to sit down on a chair when I told him," she exclaimed.
The winner said she was asked to repeat the amount to her husband several times as he couldn't believe it.
"He asked a few times if Golden Casket had made a mistake, but I told him, no, we've really won, they're sure of it!"
As the couple only discovered they'd won late yesterday, they have yet to settle on any plans for how to spend the windfall.
"It's too soon to decide what to do with the money but I'd say we'll definitely go on a holiday to celebrate.
"Then eventually we'll be able to retire comfortably."
The 12-game Regular QuickPick ticket was purchased for $7.90 from NewsXpress Bishops Goondiwindi on Marshall Street.
Public Relations Executive Zoe Knobel said Golden Casket is still waiting for the holder of an unregistered division one winning entry from Saturday's $30 million Mid-year Megadraw purchased in Toowoomba to contact Golden Casket to claim their prize.
