UPDATE: POLICE have disarmed a small Second World War hand grenade, which was found by a resident in Cullen St earlier this afternoon.

Sergeant Gary Beling said the grenade was most likely from a relative who had gone away to serve in the Second World War.

"We took photos of the device and then sent them to the army bomb disposal team," he said.

"They told us what to do - we took it apart and discovered the internal initiator wasn't in there."

Members of the bomb squad are expected to take the disarmed device away from the Warwick Police Station this morning.

Residents are being urged to call 000 and keep clear of the area if they find an explosive or suspicious device.

TODAY: A QUIET suburban street in Warwick has been cordoned off, after a Second World War hand grenade was discovered at a property this afternoon.

Police were called to the Cullen St property after it was reported the old hand grenade had been discovered.

Warwick Police Sergeant Gary Beling said the grenade would need to be handled by a specialist team.

"We have experts on their way from Brisbane," he said.

"We just have to sit and wait for their verdict."

Warwick Police do not believe the hand  grenade is of any relation to a device found at a property near Morgan Park earlier this year.
