THE region was hit hard with storms over the weekend, with power outages across the Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and Somerset regions.

A spokesperson for Energex said from 10am on Saturday to midnight on Sunday, there were 14,000 power outages in the Lockyer Valley and Somerset regions.

The outages were all storm-related, with Energex attending to fallen powerlines and emergency repairs.

The majority of power was restored within a few hours of the outages occurring.

Lockyer Valley SES area controller Gary Doyle said there were only three call-outs for the SES over the weekend.

"We had three requests for sand bags for some localised flooding, two in Gatton in one in Helidon," he said.

"We actually escaped out of the storms quite well.

"The SES was also called to help provide some power to the Business Awards."

Somerset SES volunteers received 13 calls for assistance at the weekend after the series of storms.

Lowood was the hardest hit, with SES crews responding to six calls for assistance in the township.

SES volunteers assisted four residents who had leaking roofs, attended three jobs where roofs had been damaged during the storm, and the rest of the jobs crews attended were for flash flooding concerns.

Somerset mayor Graeme Lehmann said the weekend's storms were a reminder for residents to sign up to the Early Warning Network and receive alerts when storms approach.

"Residents are encouraged to sign up to the free service to be better prepared, and can do so by visiting council's website," Cr Lehmann said.
