Making boy's wish come true
WHEN Make-a-Wish Foundation couldn't make little Mitchell Luders' wish come true, Christine Leu knew the Gladstone community could help.
For the past year, brave 10-year-old Mitchell has been battling a deadly form of cancer and is still receiving treatment in the Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane.
Little Mitchell has already been dealt his fair share of blows.
Earlier this year, another was hurled his way when the Make-a-Wish Foundation reneged on its promise to grant Mitchell's wish due to the organisation's financial difficulties.
Christine explains that what started off as a small fundraising effort to help grant Mitchell's wish of visiting Japan soon became something much bigger.
"I approached local businesses to donate items for an online auction and the response has been amazing," she said.
"We have 50 fabulous items up for auction and all of the money will go directly towards Mitchell's treatment."
Some of the auction items include a LARC Tour (valued at $492), a BMX bike, seaplane flight, $500 Jetset accommodation voucher and more.
Christine said her dream was to see Mitchell's wish fulfilled.
"It would be so wonderful for him to be able to go to Japan to see where Pokemon was created," Christine said.
"We need to raise another $10K to make this possible."
The online auction will start at 7pm on Monday and will run through to Sunday.

Christine would like to advise people without Facebook accounts that, if they would still like to be involved, a reserve bidder can be arranged. Winners have three days to pay for items.
