Mayor says no to uranium processing in Rockhampton Region
SECRET plans from the Bjelke-Petersen era to construct a nuclear enrichment plant in the Rockhampton region are being revisited by the Federal Opposition, according to reports in a southern newspaper yesterday.
Broadmount, 30 kms south-east of Rockhampton was the preferred of three options put forward 40 years ago for a $1 billion uranium enrichment plant., but Rockhampton mayor, Margaret Strelow has no intentions of supporting a uranium industry.
