NBN has city online for an exciting 2013

THERE is no doubt that 2013 is shaping up to be one of opportunity, success and continued growth across the region.

One of the biggest stories of the year will undoubtedly be the rollout of the National Broadband Network across parts of Toowoomba.

The NBN has the potential to be a game-changer for Toowoomba businesses.

Some city businesses have gone as far as to relocate their offices to ensure they are the first to be hooked up.

The rollout of the National Broadband Network will ensure Toowoomba businesses have the opportunity to move ahead online with affordable, high-speed internet access.

Another big news story which will dominate headlines this year will be the proposed $300 million QIC redevelopment of Grand Central and Gardentown Shopping Centres.

If approved, the development is expected to create about 1500 jobs during construction and about 1000 retail jobs once completed.

Toowoomba Regional Council is expected to make a decision in the first half of this year.

At some stage this year a Federal Government election will be called.

With that will come the promises, more promises and then just at the last minute - more promises.

The obvious promise local candidates will go to the polls with will be funding towards the second Range crossing.

For the past three decades that has been an unfulfilled promise by governments of all colours.

There is no question that the city requires it to be built. Time will tell if it actually becomes a reality.

However, Better Business will continue to be the champion of small business in the Garden City.
