THE netball courts on Railway St came alive at the weekend as the Granite Belt's young netball stars gathered for the start of the new season.

It was a perfect day for sport across the region as the sun shone and the breeze blew lightly enough to keep players cool.

Stanthorpe Netball Association president Sue Smith was happy with the day and said she was ready for the season ahead.

"The weather was beautiful and we were overwhelmed with the amount of children that came to start with us for this season," Smith said.

"All up we have about 70 children playing this year. We have had quite a few inquiries regarding the start of a ladies comp.

"If anyone is wanting to play a Saturday comp, please come to the netball club this Saturday, April 29, anytime after 1pm so we can discuss getting teams together."

Smith said she had to thank the volunteers and parents for the great season start.

"I'd like to thank all the mums and dad who stayed and watched their daughters. It was wonderful to see," she said.

Any inquiries about Stanthorpe netball can be answered by the committee or by calling Sue Smith on 4681 4803.
