CLIVE Palmer's Coolum Resort was the centre of a tall tail today as the first of more than 160 dinosaurs arrived at its new home.

The Tyrannosaurus Rex was shipped from China, measuring a giant  20m in length and standing 8.5m tall with an impressive weight of  1.7 tonne.

Palmer Coolum Resort general manager Bill Schoch said T-Rex was the first of many to come.

"The biggest dinosaur park in the world has 160 animals and we hope to top that," he said.

The contraption will take a the resort's engineering team around a week to assemble.
