Andrew follows country road

ANDREW Redford has come along way since his days busking on Sunshine Coast streets and playing local cafes.

The 19-year-old Buderim boy has just finished a tour as the opening act for Aussie country music favourites The McClymonts.

He played a 20-minute set to a packed venue in Narrabri, NSW and a 30-minute set at the Eaton Hill Hotel in Brisbane.

And he has now been named as the support act for Pete Murray's tour in April.

The humble teen said it was a surreal experience to play for jam-packed venues but he was slowly getting used to it.

"It is a bit nerve-racking but so exciting," Andrew said.

He never knew what to expect in his music career, but loved every moment of it.

"I am learning what it is all about.

"I am so privileged to be a part of the music industry," he said.

Being on the tour bus with Brooke, Samantha and Mollie McClymont was a lot of fun and gave him insight to what it would like to be on the road as a solo artist.

"It is great spending time with them, and being able to watch them in their element.

"I could see myself touring around Australia in a bus - it would be a great life."

This may be a very real opportunity for the talent, who won the Telstra Road to Discovery quest in Tamworth during January.

The top spot not only gave him the rare opportunity to walk the red carpet and perform at the Golden Guitar awards, it also scored him a package including studio recording and co-writing opportunities, gigs in Australia and New Zealand and a trip to Nashville.

He has also recently been named a finalist in the International Songwriters Competition for his song The Duet, featuring Millie Tizzard, from his recent EP, Hey Lucy.

Andrew will set off for the US in September.
