JUST days after Warwick sizzled through its warmest October day in five years, sleet yesterday hit our neighbours on the Granite Belt.

Weatherzone meteorologist Mellissa MacKellar said sleet was an unusual sight to be seen this late in the year.

"It was caused by cool air moving up to southern Queensland and bringing a blast of Antarctic Air," she said.

"It should all be easing now and any snow is long gone because it has started warming up again."

Warwick shivered through icy temperatures yesterday, which was a nasty change after enjoying temperatures of 33 degrees on Wednesday.

"Warwick reached a top of 15 degrees (yesterday), which is 11 degrees below average, but the wind chill made it feel more like 12 degrees" Ms MacKellar said.

"Stanthorpe only reached a maximum of 11 degrees by 3pm, which is 12 below average and the minimum for (yesterday) was 3 degrees."

The Rose City is now in for a sunny weekend, with maximum temperatures of about 23 degrees expected.
