BEIJING gold medallist Emma Snowsill has confirmed she will appeal against the decision by Triathlon Australia selectors to leave her out of the team to compete at the London Olympic Games.

Selectors decided Snowsill's form did not warrant giving her the opportunity to defend her Olympic gold medal.

Instead they nominated Emma Moffat, Emma Jackson and Erin Densham.

Beijing bronze medallist and dual world champion Moffat was given her place in the team for London as far back as last year, while Jackson staked her claim with a fourth place in last year's world championship.

The 20-year-old looked in good form in a round of the 2012 world triathlon championship series in Madrid last month before being forced to retire in the run leg with stomach cramps.

Densham has been the star of the season to date with wins in the Mooloolaba Triathlon (Snowsill missed that race with a stomach complaint), and the Sydney leg of the world championship series.

A Triathlon Australia spokesman yesterday confirmed Snowsill had lodged an intention to appeal the decision within the timeframe allowed. If the 30-year-old triple world champion does appeal, it will be heard by an independent three-person Olympic Appeals Tribunal, chaired by David Grace QC.

The final team selections will be advised by the Australian Olympic Committee.

Meanwhile, the three male competitors for London have also been nominated.

Beijing Olympians Brad Kahlefeldt and Courtney Atkinson will make their second appearance at the Games, joined by young gun Brendan Sexton.

Kahlefeldt was identified for nomination in 2011 after a strong season that saw him win the Hamburg leg of the World Championship series and post a number of other top 10 performances.

But his place in the team looked in jeopardy when he was suspected to have picked up tuberculosis after feeling ill during the San Diego leg of the men's world championship series last month.
