Southern Downs bracing for up to 150mm of rain

John Gass

THE Southern Downs has been put on a flood watch with up to 150mm of rain expected to fall across the region tomorrow.

Weatherzone meteorologist Rob Sharpe  said there was a chance that the region's rivers could rise above the minor flood level tomorrow.

"There is a small chance of minor flooding in the Southern Downs, but it is more likely in the coastal areas," he said.

The heavy rain is due to a low pressure trough sitting over the coast combining with an inland low pressure trough.

Mr Sharpe said 50-100mm would fall in Warwick and that some parts of the Southern Downs could receive up to 150mm in 24 hours.

"It won't be all that windy in Warwick, just very wet," Mr Sharpe said.
