Tarnea pursues the Roxy dream
TARNEA O'Meara wants to be a Roxy Girl.
The 18-year-old, of Mooloolaba, has embarked on a campaign to be the global face of the surf brand through the Let The Sea Set You Free competition.
The social media initiative asks thousands of surf girls to submit videos, photos and essays to be chosen as the best character to represent the "Roxy Spirit".
Tarnea made it to the top 150 surf girls last month, and she is determined to make it all the way.
"The surf is my life. I am in the ocean every day," she said.
"My friends joke around with me all the time saying that I smile when I'm in the surf, but it is because it makes me happy and I am a better person when I am in the surf."
Tarnea said her mother, nutritionist Cyndi O'Meara, influenced her healthy life choices and encouraged her to enter the contest.
"My mum gives me a lot of support to follow my dreams," she said.
Despite only having two years of surfing experience, it was her enthusiasm and willingness to learn which put her ahead of the crowd.
"To be a Roxy Girl and travel the world surfing would be a dream come true," Tarnea said.
The finalists will be named tomorrow.
