THE cricket season will formally swing into action this Saturday night with the best 12 players of the past decade brought together for the first time.

Warwick Cricket Association Col O'Brien said the Team of the Decade would be announced at a dinner on Saturday night, along with four new life members.

"The team is players from 2000-2009. It was selected by the current committee and voted on by them," he said.

"Everyone who has played cricket in that time was considered.

"It was narrowed to 20 and finally the final 12.

"Skill came into it and statistics: how many finals they played and how much representative cricket they played while representing Warwick.

"Anything after 2009 hasn't been considered."

O'Brien said the team, which would take to the pitch in a pre-season hit-out against the University of Southern Queensland on Sunday, would be made up of some current players, some retired players and even some players who had moved away from the area.

Tickets to the Warwick Golf Club dinner are $35. It starts at 6pm. Call Col O'Brien, 0414 497 296 to book. Game starts 10am Sunday at Slade Park.

Admission is free.
