IT WASN'T so long ago Tijuana Cartel were celebrating the release of M1.

The band's sophomore release brought with it a change in direction for the Gold Coast band who took on a rock-tinge to their otherwise worldly sound.

And, heading in to their third release they're set for another shake-up.

"We've been working on a lot of new tracks and we have another musician working with us," Paul George, frontman and guitarist tells Pulse.

"He's a middle eastern percussionist, so it seems to be going toward the Middle Eastern style we used to play more of.

"We like to change directions with each release, but it is sounding a lot more like the old stuff."

The band's first release since the album is Offer Yourself, a single that sees the band team up with producer Scott Horscroft (360, Presets, Empire Of The Sun), for a dream-like, psychedelic track, layered with uplifting vibes.

The rest of the album is set for release (hopefully) in September.

M1 has sold better than any of the band's other releases and has seen them gain a bigger audience with every gig and every festival.

The band were recently announced on the Splendour in the Grass line-up, a little closer to home than the first time they played the festival at Woodford.

"It will be good because we should have a lot of crew there to support us," he says.

Before they make the leap back onto the Belongil stage and head off to tour overseas, Tijuana Cartel are headed to the SoundLounge, Currumbin May 18, tickets $35 thesoundlounge.com.au and The Northern, Byron Bay May 19, tickets $25 thenorthern.com.au.
