US to face Spain in Beijing rematch

MEN'S basketball powerhouse the United States will look to defend its 2008 Olympic title in a rematch with Spain after the star-studded American side took down Argentina 109-83.

The Argentinians kept it close in the first half but a dominant third period from US stars LeBron James and Kevin Durant all but booked the NBA superstars a spot in their second consecutive gold medal game.

Shooting guard Manu Ginobili (18 points, three assists) did all he could to keep Argentina in the contest and he had scoring help from fellow NBA imports Carlos Delfino (15) and Luis Scola (15).

But they were not enough to match the might of the US, which used its entire bench by the full-time whistle in a tune-up for Sunday's final at midnight (AEST).

Oklahoma City forward Durant scored a game-high 19 points for Team USA, while James added 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
