NEXT year, Warwick Polocrosse Club member Kent Wells will be able to claim he has done it all in polocrosse.

He has just been named assistant coach of the Australian team for the 2015 World Cup in South Africa and will travel to Gulgong in central west New South Wales this weekend to watch the seven men in action against two New South Wales zone teams.

In October, he and coach Troy Henry will travel to Western Australia for two Tests between a team including the seven Australian women World Cup squad members and New Zealand. The final World Cup squad of four men and four women will be named late this year.

Wells has won national championships with Queensland, played for Australian open teams, coached the national side and next year will be part of a World Cup campaign.

Originally from Warwick, Wells, wife Libby and family now live at Coulson near Boonah, the base for his farrier business.

He first played for Australia in two wins against New Zealand in 1993 and then in two one-goal losses to New Zealand in Victoria in 2001.

Off the field, he was coach of an Australian team which became the first men's team to win across the Tasman in a two-Test series in New Zealand in 2005. Henry was the captain.

While he has coached at the nationals, Wells has been part of the National Umpiring Committee for the past two nationals and did not coach.

He rates his selection as assistant coach for the World Cup "up there" with his greatest achievements in polocrosse.

"I have never been to South Africa so it will be great to go there with the Australian team," he said.

"My role will be to help Troy and the players prepare for each game on strange horses."

At the start of the World Cup, each of the eight competing nations will be allocated one of eight pools of horses and it will be up to Henry, Wells and manager Carolyn Garland to match the players and horses to ensure the best possible performance by the Australian team in 2015.

After winning the first two World Cups in Warwick, Australia finished third in 2011 in the United Kingdom after going down to eventual winners South Africa in the semi final.

There could be another Wells wearing green and gold one day, Kent and Libby's son Anthony is currently in an Australian junior squad.
