Jail for part in disturbing murder

A WOMAN who hacked off a man's penis after luring him to her Maryborough home where he was sprayed with poison and beaten to death has been jailed for nine years.

In what a Brisbane judge described as a " frankly disgusting" chain of events, Dianna Gay Wright met father of two Noel Clark at Maryborough's Centrelink office in 2009 and drove him to her house with the knowledge two men were waiting to attack him.

The court heard Wright's ex-lover Graeme Wright allegedly had a vendetta against Mr Clark and convinced her and her then partner Brian Naylor to help plot the brutal attack.

Wright told police that on the morning of Mr Clark's murder, the three co-accused used drugs and that the two men bought power leads, a can of spray to "knock Noel out" and armed themselves with at least one baseball bat.

She admitted Mr Clark had told her he was in fear of his life and was frightened of Graeme Wright before she drove him to her John St address.

Once inside, Mr Wright and Mr Naylor allegedly jumped out of hiding and beat Mr Clark to the point where his head was "busted open and bleeding", sprayed his face with a substance, tied him up with power cords and left him to die on the bathroom floor.

When one of the men checked his pulse and said "he's dead", they allegedly wrapped Mr Clark in a doona, placed him in the boot of their car and waited until after dark to drive the body out of Maryborough.

Wright followed in her car until the men allegedly pulled over on a section of road where she was "ordered" to cut off Mr Clark's penis with a Stanley knife because he was, according to one of the men, a "rapist and paedophile".

The court heard Wright never saw Mr Clark's body again and that police had been unable to find where he was buried.

Police tracked down Wright and her young son at a Toowoomba motel in August 2009.

At the time detectives did not have enough evidence to hold her but three days later she was arrested in Armidale and extradited back to Queensland.

Graeme Wright was then arrested at his sister's home near Warwick and Mr Naylor soon after.

All three were charged with murder while Wright was also charged with interfering with a corpse.

Yesterday, she pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter and guilty to the interference charge.

Her defence barrister said his client's upbringing had been marred by violence and she had run away from home at age 10 and dropped out of school when she fell pregnant in Year 11.

He described Wright as a self-confessed alcoholic whose relationship with the co-accused revolved around a toxic mix of drugs and sex.

He said Wright had rid herself of those addictions since being in custody and was deeply regretful for her actions and the pain she had caused Mr Clark's family.

He also claimed Wright believed she had no choice but to follow orders to cut off Mr Clark's penis because she feared her refusal would place her own life in danger.

A victim impact statement, which included a photograph of Mr Clark with his two children, was tendered in court.

Justice Martin Daubney noted Mr Clark's murder clearly had "devastating effect" on his family.

He took into account Wright's early plea of guilty and frank admissions to police but described her actions as "deeply savage" and "callous and depraved".

Wright was sentenced to nine years jail for manslaughter and one year for interfering with a corpse to be served concurrently.

The two years and 10 months she spent in pre-sentence custody was declared as time served.
