JENNY Seed is inspiring her pupils at St Mary's School to help children in Papua New Guinea have a better education.
The Year 6 school teacher is heading off on Friday on a teaching mission to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH) school - in a town called Kavieng in Papua New Guinea for two weeks.
“The OLSH school has 250 students and at the moment they need lots of resources,” Ms Seed said.
“It's about helping other people - people are the purpose in life.
“I think making other people happy makes you a happy and confident person.”
Ms Seed said the Year 6 pupils in her class were excited about her trip and they have been making rosary beads as a gift to the children in OLSH school.
“By the time I get there, I will have a rosary bead to hand out to every child. We are also having a fundraiser in the school today and tomorrow ,” she said.
“For children there the direction of education depends on what sort of opportunities are available for them in the future. The education they are going to have needs to suit their style of life.
“I hope my trip to OLSH school enriches their classrooms and gives them a hands-on-idea that is useful to their way of life and is practical.”
Ms Seed said OLSH school had a high number of children in one classroom.
“And the children in the primary section at OLSH school may be slightly older than primary section children here,” she said. “This gives our students valuable opportunities to learn about other countries and cultures.
“It also gives teachers like me the opportunity to experience third world schooling and assist teachers in Papua New Guinea so that they can provide quality education to their students.”
Ms Seed said she was really excited about going to Kavieng and meeting the people and building a relationship with them and couldn't be more proud of her students.
