MORE than 70 riders competed in the zone 21 pony club gymkhana at Inglewood over the long weekend.
Warwick Hack and Pony Club secretary Lorelle Madsen said the Inglewood Pony Club ran a well-attended camp on Saturday and Sunday.
“(Yesterday) we had the gymkhana. Six pony clubs attended,” Mrs Madsen said.
“We had pony clubs from Warwick, Stanthorpe, Inglewood, Texas, Cunningham and Killarney take part in the competition.
“Some of the equestrian events included barrel race, flag race, Bondfield bounce, bending race, bareback, showjumping and bend bar aft. There were quite a few events.”
She said in bareback class riders had to take their saddle off and ride on the horse's back.
“We had four riders that had to ride together,” Mrs Madsen said.
“Sharee Clarke had the fastest time in the barrel race. Her time to win the event was 19.47 seconds.
“There were events for different age groups. The two age groups were 12 years and under and 13 years and over.”
She said the winners of the day were Inglewood Pony Club with the highest points.
“We had a good day with Warwick Hack and Pony Club coming in second,” Mrs Madsen said.
“Third place went to Cunningham Pony Club. Killarney came in fourth, with Stanthorpe coming in fifth and the sixth place went to Texas.”
She said the Warwick Hack and Pony Club general meeting will be held today at the pony club canteen at 7.30pm.
“All members are welcome to come along and have their say and find out what is happening in their club,” Mrs Madsen said.
“This weekend was very enjoyable and we look forward to the event next year. It was well worth the trip. We have the Oldies Sports Day on the 14th.”
