THE local potters are geared up to display their beautiful pieces of pottery at the Jumpers and Jazz in July Festival.
Warwick Potters Association member Sue Creed said the potters would hold 'Pit Firing' on July 4 and a pottery exhibition which officially opens on July 17.
“We will have our pottery on display and for sale at the 30th annual pottery exhibition named 'Fire and Earth'-'Earth' represents where the clay comes and the 'fire' represents the method of firing the clay,” Mrs Creed said.
“A Pit Firing is where bisques (or low fired pieces) are placed among saw-dust with a fire built on top then lit and allowed to burn for approximately eight hours. When the pit is opened a week later the effects can be outstanding.
“On the opening night on July 17 for a small fee of $10 we offer the buyer a choice of bowls from which they select one and then we fill it with hot soup.
“The bowl is theirs to keep and throughout the evening guests will be treated to jazz music as well as finger foods and drinks.”
Mrs Creed said the exhibition would go until July 26 from 10am to 4pm.
“We have been fortunate enough to be allocated a palm to decorate with the theme 'hearts' and the potters are involved with the markets in Leslie Park on July 26 from 9am to 3.30pm,” she said.
“There will be entertainment, activities for children, pony rides, delicious foods, wine tasting, handcrafts, arts and plants.
“The potters so look forward to the Jumpers and Jazz where we can bring out our winter woollies and rugs and listen to great music. We will be joined by the Warwick Spinners and Weavers and the Warwick Woodcrafters.”
