GET ready to experience the magic of steam with wonderful music at Jazz on the Platform - part of the Jumpers and Jazz in July Festival.

Southern Downs Steam Railway (SDSR) operations manager Adam Cole said to enjoy the winter weather in July was to embrace the Jumpers and Jazz event.

“The basics of Jazz on the Platform are there will be two train trips on July 19 from Warwick to Hendon - one at 10am and the second at 2pm.

“It will be a two-hour train trip to Hendon - between the trips from noon to 2pm, we will have lunch and Toowoomba band South Street Jazz will entertain everyone at the Warwick Railway Station platform,” Mr Cole said.

“From a passenger point of view you hop on the morning train, enjoy the scenery, the cold weather and entertainment and say you have had an amazing day out.

“It's having the best of both worlds. Personally I think quirky festivals like Jumpers and Jazz get people to go outdoors when they prefer stay indoors in the cold weather.”

Mr Cole said the plan to come up with different ideas to keep people interested could be difficult at times.

SDSR events co-ordinator Steve Marston said it was great to have the steam trains running for the first time.

“Last year we had 500-odd people in the SDSR precinct. Based on last year's growth and the popularity of Jumpers and Jazz we have formed an entertainment committee to help with the selected expertise in their fields such as food, signage, entertainment, trains and others,” Mr Marston said.

“The festival is a community effort. We are a part of a team trying to showcase Warwick to everyone.

“We could have thousands of people this year at Jazz on the Platform.”
