FULLBACK Brendan Wilson was the best player as Wattles drew 34-all with Souths on Sunday at Clive Berghofer Stadium.
Wattles led 24-22 at half-time and trailed 34-24 with 10 minutes to go.
Centre Russell McMillan scored an unconverted try before hooker Justin Croft scored beside the posts with a minute to go.
Half-back Trent Achilles landed the conversion to level the scores.
Wattles president Jason Fogarty said coach Dan Sparksman paid tribute to Wilson and second rower Roger Pauli for keeping Wattles in the match.
“All players came through the game without injury and we are looking to field a stronger side with the return of five-eighth Luke Brosnan against Dalby at Clifton on Sunday,” Fogarty said.
Wattles won reserve grade 36-16. Half-back John Byrne set up tries and scored two himself while Justin Van Der Poel again had a strong game for Wattles.
Souths won 22-18 in the U18 game. Sunday's first game is at 11.30am at Platz Oval. A grade is for the Rod Frahm Memorial Trophy.
