THE defence of Sarah Kane and Maggie Hay was outstanding as Warwick went down 3-0 to Ipswich 2 on day two of the Queensland under-15 girls hockey championships at Queen's Park yesterday.
Warwick conceded a goal just before half-time and held out three successive penalty corners after 10 minutes of the second half before Ipswich scored twice for a 3-0 win.
After the game, Warwick coach Shannon Armbruster said the teams changed defensive line held up really well.
“The girls are improving with very game,” Armbruster said.
“Maggie and Sarah did a fantastic job in the backs.”
In division 2, Hervey Bay striker Lauren Scholl hit six goals in a 17-0 victory against a side from new association Redlands.
A Madeline Staff goal in the 7th minute of the second half enabled Toowoomba 1 to upset Brisbane 1 in the 1.15pm game on the synthetic.
Going into the game, Toowoomba and Brisbane teams each had three wins from three games in pool B.
Brisbane went close to equalising in the final minute of play when a shot by Georgia Hillas just missed.
Bundaberg and Mackay are the front runners in division 1/pool A while Hervey Bay, Brisbane 4 and Toowoomba 2 are three of the form teams in division 2.
