About 10:25am this morning New South Wales and Queensland Police and other emergency services responded to reports of a helicopter crash at Gold Coast Airport, Coolangatta.

Police say initial investigations suggest that a helicopter crashed near a runway and within the confines of the airport.

The male pilot died at the scene. No other person was injured during the incident.

An emergency services spokeswoman said firefighters removed the man from the wreckage.

"Paramedics were performing CPR on the man but he was confirmed deceased at about 10.55am," she said.

Police have notified the Air Transport Safety Bureau, which will assist in the investigation.
