Hoping to raise awareness for breast cancer with their decorated tree are (from left) Ros Robinson, Sharon Campbell and Barbara Cutmore.
BEFORE some creative Rose City residents helped warmed them up, trees in the CBD had to just shiver through the winter.
Yesterday, tree decorators braved the cold air as they decorated their trees to mark the start of the Jumpers and Jazz in July Festival.
Glenrose Patchwork named its big palm tree on Palmerin Street 'The Mammary Tree - Keeping Abreast of Things'.
Patchworker Ros Robinson said their small group of passionate patchworkers were excited about their participation in the Jumpers and Jazz event.
“At one of our chat sessions, we decided we had to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer owing to our teacher and friend being diagnosed with this insidious disease,” Mrs Robinson said.
“After a horror year, thankfully she is on the mend and we have found a way to help other women (and men) that will face a similar challenge.
“We want to promote awareness of breast cancer but the bonus would be handing the Breast Cancer Association of Queensland a mighty nice cheque to help them continue the wonderful work that they carry out.”
She said decorating the tree was a challenge but loads of fun.
