THE co-promoter of the Killarney Country Music Festival said the organisers are keen to run the event again next year after more than 800 people packed into the recreation centre on Saturday night.
Phil Payne said the event this year - which Adam Harvey and Catherine Britt headlined - was a success, breaking even despite running without any sponsorship.
“We absolutely want to continue it ... we'll probably sit down in a couple of months and assess how this one went and look to the future,” Mr Payne said.
Harvey, Britt and the Sunny Cowgirls almost ran late to the show which kicked off about 5pm. They had to come all the way from Deniliquin where they performed the previous day.
“I personally can't see us changing the venue at all next year,” Mr Payne said. “I'd rather sell it out across two nights at the Killarney Recreation Centre next year and the year after and then potentially look to go outdoors.”
“We've always got to look to our points of difference and have got to grow the branding of the festival. There's always the dollars and cents things with these but the first indoor one certainly broke even financially with no sponsors' dollars and that's a good result.”
Payne said two of the seven artists were likely to be back next year, including Markus Meier.
“I think it could be a festival that really grows for Markus,” he said.
“I would think one or two of those artists on (Saturday) could be back next year.”
