YANGAN woman Jessica Leech has been crowned the 2009 Warwick Show and Rodeo Society Rodeo Queen in what organisers are saying was one of the best quests in recent years.

Miss Leech said she was taken by complete surprise when crowned on Saturday night at the Douglas Feez Pavilion at the Warwick Showgrounds in front of a crowd of about 270, but said she was ready for the responsibility that came with the sash.

“I was shocked when I won; it was a big shock, I just didn't expect it,” she said.

“I am so glad I decided to enter the competition and I plan to take on the role fully and give 110 per cent.

“I think all the entrants looked amazing. I am looking forward to being the ambassador for the rodeo for 2009.”

Miss Leech won a stack of prizes including five nights accommodation on the Sunshine Coast, tickets to the National Finals Rodeo on the Gold Coast and gift vouchers to a number of local businesses.

Of the eight queen entrants, Stacey Kettleton was named Miss Appearance, local girl Jessica Easey Miss Fundraiser, Louise Wilson Miss Horsemanship and Peta Browne Miss Personality.

Queen quest organiser Tania Weier said the standard and number of entrants was incredibly high, from Tiny Tots right through to Rodeo Princesses and Queens.

“It's getting bigger and better every year,” she said.

At the presentation evening the entrants, from Tiny Tots through to Queens, had to go up on stage individually. They were judged on their appearance and were required to answer a few questions.

“With the Queens the questions were harder but they were all outstanding,” Mrs Weier said.

Miss Leech and the other winners will now have a week's break before their representative duties begin when the Warwick Rodeo kicks off.
