Harry Frost with his entry in The Scots PGC Art Prize, A Murrurundi Scene.
HE created country music's Holy Grail, the Golden Guitar, boasts successful Sydney solo exhibitions and is instantly recognised on our national art scene but this weekend Harry Frost is content to keep it local.
The former aircraft engineer, who has won 118 art awards in a career spanning 80 years, will be one of the major drawcards at the 2009 Scots PGC College Art Prize tomorrow night.
For Mr Frost, who relocated to Warwick 18 months ago, this exhibition is an opportunity to showcase his work alongside other regional artists.
“I appreciate being included: it's an opportunity to meet people interested in creative and beautiful things,” he said.
Originally based in the Tamworth region, Mr Frost sketched the original design for country music's ultimate prize, the Golden Guitar, back in 1960.
“It was just a little country music weekend, I had no idea it would become a multi-million dollar event,” he said.
Yet the rise of the Golden Guitar was matched by Mr Frost's own career with the prize-winning creator selling more than 1130 works during his career.
This year he will join 60 national and local artists featured at the bi-annual Scots PGC College art prize.
Art show director Susan Shaw said the college was thrilled to have again attracted such a high level of talent to the 2009 art prize.
“Each time we hold the art prize we are amazed with the interest that we receive and this year is certainly no different with such an array of quality artists and their work on exhibit,” Mrs Shaw said.
“This year we will have more than 170 works on display providing a wonderful opportunity for locals to be able to purchase quality and renowned artwork, right on their doorstep,”
Harry Frost will join Fiona Kennedy Altoft, John Bartoo, Jenny Durack and David Woodford, who are all exhibiting at the 2009 Scots PGC College Art Prize.
