School backs charity

CARISSA Wrigley is in training for her second 500 Summer Challenge Relay for the Endeavour Foundation.

Wrigley, six of her school mates from Warwick State High School, and teacher Robert Stewart are part of the Warwick team competing in the 500-kilometre relay.

She ran five relay legs in 17 kilometres last year.

“The leg I remember most was the first one near Rathdowney,” Wrigley said.

She runs up to eight kilometres a day after school.

“I run six days a week and cover the distance I feel like running on the day,” Wrigley said.

She is best at 400 metres but also enjoy long distance events.

Naithen Richards remembers the food from the last challenge relay.

“The food was pretty good but really healthy,” he said.

“It is good to do something you like (running) and raise money for a worthy cause (Endeavour).”

The Warwick team of 20 needs to raise $3000.

Warwick High teacher Rob Stewart said the students were aiming to raise $1000.

“Team member Emma works at Woolworths and her work will double what we raise up to $1000,” he said. “We aim to raise more than what is required.”

Stewart and fellow team members Pat Sinnott, Ross Leggatt and David Trahair have competed in the last seven Summer Challenge Relays with Warwick.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the Warwick High students can leave money in the fund-raising container at the school office.

The relay runners will arrive in Warwick at noon on November 21 for lunch at Queen’s after a morning run from Yangan to Killarney and then Warwick. Their afternoon run is to Allora, Clifton and East Greenmount.
