WARWICK Swimming Club president David Fearby has praised four coaches from WIRAC in the wake of his club’s win in the overall points tally at the annual McNamara Sprints Meet on Saturday.
“Most of our club members swam at least one personal best time, some had personal bests in each of their events,” Fearby said.
“This is a credit to the four coaches from WIRAC – Karen Peters, Karen Gilchrist, Bec Horne and Mel Marsh, who take the squads.”
He said the training program for swim squad members also included some dry land training.
“The swimmers enjoy the cross training, it is a break from following the black line up and down the pool,” Fearby said.
Emma Pails was one swimmer happy with her personal best time on Sunday.
“Training is going well – it seems like the dryland sessions are working for me,” Emma said.
She had a personal best time of 33.9 seconds in 50m freestyle.
Warwick had five age champions in the McNamara Sprints, Bronte Collins (10 years girls), Dimity Brackin (11 years girls), Tim Collins (12 years boys), Josh Day (13 years boys) and Tegan Warrener (15 years and over girls).
Already this season, some Warwick swimmers competed successfully in the Toowoomba Flyers Carnival in early October.
On Saturday, Josh Day, Nick Wall and Emily Hoffman performed well in the Toowoomba Open at Milne Bay Aquatic Centre. Josh won one gold and two silver medals.
Warwick trio Dimity Brackin, Brayden Fearby and Hunter Marsh represented Darling Downs Regional Swimming in an Invitational Carnival at Albany Creek in Brisbane last month.
All three swam well and Dimity won a silver medal in butterfly.
On Saturday, 34 Warwick Swimming Club members will compete in the annual Allora Swimming Club Carnival.
For most of the Warwick swimmers, the high point each week is club night at WIRAC on Friday.
Last week, 51 swimmers nominated for club night which goes from 6pm to 7.30pm each Friday during school terms.
More information on the swimming club is available from secretary Gerard Kane on 4667 1966 or at WIRAC.
