Qld car insurance premiums reviewed

Teaching the art of river sailingTHERE are a few simple things you can do to reach a balance between the type of car insurance you need, and the amount of money you pay for your premium.

DON'T get caught short on your car insurance this road trip season.

Executive General Manager Suncorp Personal Insurance Jason McCracken says that preparation and the right amount of car insurance will ensure the trip is memorable for all the right reasons.

“Driving holidays mean lots of fun time in the car with family, friends and loved ones. To ensure everyone has a great time, ensure the car is serviced before you head off (including a safety check on brakes and cooling systems).

“If you are unlucky enough to have an accident while away, Suncorp Comprehensive Insurance will cover you for up to $500 for emergency repairs to get you to your destinations, or to a repairer if necessary.

“And if the accident occurs more than 100 kilometres from your home, then we also cover up $500 emergency travel and overnight accommodation if your car is unsafe to drive.

“If spending Christmas away from home, try not to leave all the family Christmas presents in the car (thieves love Christmas) – but if your car is stolen with the presents inside, Suncorp Comprehensive Cover will pay up to $150 per item, with a maximum of $500 in total.

“If you are travelling with a trailer attached to your car, don’t forget that it should be insured as well as the car. You can either insure the trailer in its own right, otherwise if it is being towed by a car covered by Suncorp Comprehensive Insurance, the trailer is automatically covered for up to $1000.00*,” Jason added.

Jason’s towing tips:

•    Gradually reduce speed
•    Steady the steering wheel - sudden turns can cause more sway
•    Apply only the trailer brakes to help reduce trailer sway
•    Do not slam on the brakes - jack knifing could occur
•    Do not attempt to steer out of a sway situation
•    Watch your speed as – trailers can sway at faster speeds
•    Do not tow a trailer that continues to sway
