IF you were planning to spend your weekend outdoors, it might be advisable to throw in that trusty Australian icon: a tarp.

The iconic accessory could help you fend off the light showers forecast for Southern Downs today and tomorrow.

While those on the Granite Belt may be praying for blue skies for the biennial Apple and Grape Harvest Festival, experts predict grey clouds will hang around until early next week.

Weatherzone meteorologist Josh Fisher said falls of between 5mm and 10mm were expected over a widespread area.

“The moisture is a result of a trough moving east and dragging the rain with it,” Mr Fisher said.

“Temperatures should be a little under the March average with the cloud cover, with daytime maximums in the low 20s.”

Mr Fisher said Monday’s outlook was for isolated showers gradually clearing to the east.

The Rose City unofficial rainfall for the 24 hours until 9am yesterday was a welcome 16mm.

A Bureau of Meteorology flood warning for the Lower Condamine remains in place.
