AFTER playing table tennis in Cairns, Henry Ryagard has been instrumental in getting the sport going at the Warwick Senior Citizens Centre.

The group meets each Monday between 9am and 11am at the Warwick Senior Citizens and is now in its second month.

Six to eight players get together each week but Ryagard is hoping to attract some new members.

Players do not have to be members of the Senior Citizens but the aim is to attract players, 50 years and over.

At present, the group plays on one table but the fee of $2 per player per week will be used to buy a second table when it is required.

Ryagard said he and his wife Reta moved to the town six months ago as they have family in Warwick.

“We played regularly in Cairns where the number of players in our club rose from four to 80,” Ryagard said.

“Health care for older people is a high cost for all taxpayers and is rising,” he said.

“Staying fit is the way to good health and relaxing medical costs. In order to turn the trend, we have started a table tennis club.”

Players are welcome to today’s play or can ring Henry and Reta Ryagard on 0439 777 983.
