10th annual Ryanie for Tyres Show and Shine draws hundreds
HUNDREDS of car fanatics packed into Federation Park for the 10th annual Ryanie for Tyres Show and Shine on Saturday, with a record number of entries in the charity show.
From motorcycles to boats, classic cars to dragsters and even a limousine, more than 100 vehicles were entered across a number of categories to raise money for Warwick Blue Care and the Warwick Dementia Group.
The most coveted award of the show, the People's Choice Car, was awarded to a 1971 HQ Holden Monaro GTS owned by Phil Farrell from Warwick.
Mr Farrell said it was a great feeling winning People's Choice.
"This is the first time I've competed in a show and shine with this car," he said.
"I've owned it for nearly 18 years."
People travelled from as far away as Brisbane to compete and spectate on Saturday.
Show and shine organiser Brendan Ryan from Ryanie for Tyres said the event was better than in previous years.
"We had 30 more entries this year than last year," he said.
"This would be the best one we've had."
In the 10 years the event has been running, more than $100,000 has been raised for Warwick Blue Care and the Warwick Dementia Group.
Mr Ryan said the event was popular because it was for charity.
"You don't see a lot of events like this in the country," he said.
"It's a perfect opportunity to show off your car in the bush.
"Most of all it's a fun day out."
Another one of the stars of the show was a purpose-built 1977 Torana LX SS hatchback race car, owned by Warwick drag racing identity John Loy.
With 1840 horsepower, Mr Loy's prized drag racer roared into life to the delight of the crowds.
Mr Loy said the Torana had been built to race, using local businesses.
"Warwick Panel and Paint did all the body work," he said.
"This car just won the country drags out at Roma over the Easter weekend."
Mr Loy races across the state and has won a number of national drag racing events in his Torana.
"I race most meetings at the Warwick Dragway," he said.
"I also race at Willowbank, Mackay and Roma."
The event concluded with a charity dinner and auction at the Warwick Golf Club, with more than 130 people attending to bid on a variety of sports memorabilia.
