11 awesome things to do around Warwick this weekend

FROM sporting events to comedy and art exhibitions, there's something to entertain the whole family this weekend.

1. Warwick parkrun

THE weekly Warwick parkrun will return this Saturday after it wasn't run last weekend due to the Pentath-run.

Runners and walkers will complete two laps of the course on each side of the Condamine River adjacent to Queens Park and St Mark's Oval.

Some runners walk with their dogs on a lead.

There is no charge but all participants are asked to print out a parkrun barcode from the website which can be used for recording purposes.

WHEN: Tomorrow 7am start.

WHERE: Starting point is at Queens Park, down from the rugby union oval.

COST: Free.

2. Cowboys home

WARWICK Cowboys will play Pittsworth in rugby league on Sunday at Father Ranger Oval.

The Cowboys have five wins in six A-grade games.

There is a lot of history between clubs especially as Warwick beat Pittsworth to win its first TRL A-grade premiership in 1987.

WHEN: Sunday.

WHERE: Father Ranger Oval.

COST: $8 for adults, $5 for concession, children under 16 free.

3. Lemons in town

THE 24 Hours of Lemons meeting will be held this weekend with 11 hours of racing on Saturday and 10 hours on Saturday.

Practice is today and racing tomorrow and Sunday.

The name 24 Hours of Lemons is a use of words just like The 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race meeting in Europe where Warwick driver Matt Campbell drove brilliantly.

While the 24-hour non-stop race will be in September, the Lemons organisation will have two all day races this weekend.

WHERE: Morgan Park Raceway.

4. Junior football

WARWICK Wolves junior football fixtures will be played tomorrow at Queens Park.

Players start in football soon after they can walk and are still involved at the age of 16.

The Warwick Wolves senior team has the bye this weekend.

WHERE: Queens Park.

COST: Free to watch.

5. Clothes swap

CLEAR out the closet and help support LifeFlight at the Warwick Clothes Swap this weekend.

Warwick mother Chrissy Alley was driven to establish the event after an RACQ LifeFlight helicopter helped save her son Artie's life after he contracted a serious infection.

Rummage through the clothes racks and find some new items to take home.

Swappers are also invited to enjoy a Devonshire tea and other goodies that will be available with a gold coin donation. Funds raised from the entry fee will go to LifeFlight.

6. Comedy show

QUEEN of the laughs Fiona O'Loughlin will entertain a crowd in Warwick tonight.

The multi-award winning comedian and winner of last year's I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here will be supported on the night by Anthony Lamond.

Ms O'Loughlin is widely known for her raw and real comedy style, so the show it sure to make the sides hurt.

WHEN: Tonight, 7.30-10.30pm.

WHERE: Warwick RSL Memorial Club, 65 Albion St.

7. Drags on

THE Warwick District Drag Racing Association will have the Sutton Family Bracket Series meeting at Warwick Dragway tomorrow.

Gates open at 8am, qualifying from 10am and racing from 2.30pm. This will be the last meeting before the winter break. There will be racing in five classes.

WHERE: Warwick Dragway.

COST: $10 adults, kids under 13 free.

8. Hockey games

THE Saints club will play two games tonight in club hockey.

They play games at 6pm and 7.40pm in the women's competition.

Wyverns will be in the early game and Harlequins in the late games.

9. Rugby league

GIRLS rugby league will be played tonight at the Eastern Suburbs Junior Rugby League grounds. The two games at 6.30pm and 7.20pm are between Warwick and District teams and Oakey.

10. Community garden

THE Warwick Uniting Church is inviting residents to celebrate the opening of its new garden.

It's been called God's Garden, Growing Us Together, and everyone is welcome to the opening service on Sunday.

The garden will be blessed and sponsors who helped bring the instalment to fruition will be thanked.

WHEN: Sunday, service at 10am and light refreshments at 11.30am.

WHERE: Warwick Uniting Church, 37 Guy St.

11. Exhibition starts

THE grand opening for new exhibition Plastic Doesn't Grow on Trees will be held at Warwick Art Gallery this weekend.

The new artistic installation consists of an environment made of plastic waste, a stop-motion video and time lapse video.

Light refreshments will be served to guests at the opening.
