11-year-old Brisbane girl met 'violent death'

THE body of an 11-year-old girl who suffered a 'violent death' has been found in a Brisbane apartment nearby where her mother jumped to her death a few hours later.

The child was found in the bathroom of a unit in Auchenflower about 1.45 am Tuesday, after concerned neighbours called police.

"There was a call from concerned people just to check on how they were.There was some issues in relation to the relationship earlier that night," Detective Acting Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said.   Upon arrival, police were confronted with the deceased child. 

Fairfax media reports the girl's mother fled the scene and was the subject of a major search in the inner-west in the ensuing hours.

Her body was found at a construction site in Toowoong at around 5am. 

A 65-year-old man, believed to be the girl's father was found asleep in the apartment.
