14-year-old takes out Ladies Steer Ride at rodeo

YOUNG Warwick rodeo rider Tyler Aspinall had the perfect end to the year on Thursday night.

The 14-year-old took home the title in the Ladies Steer Ride at the Warwick New Year's Eve Rodeo in front of a huge crowd of revellers at the Warwick Showgrounds.

Aspinall has been learning the ropes at the Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre andis following in the footsteps of olderbrother Hayden and father Mick Aspinall.

"My brother and father have been riding for ages and I just started a few years ago," she said.

"I think that was my first win in a steer ride," she said.

Aspinall beat Warwick Rodeo Queen Georgie Stower to take the title and told the men to watch out this year.

"I like beating the boys," she said.

"I've been competing for a few years and I would like to do more this year."

The Assumption College student said the win took her by surprise.

"I really wasn't expecting it.

"When I went out I looked down and I was really off my rope so I thought I was done but I guess not.

"It was a really good feeling to win."
