Man given 21 years jail for murder of teen in 1983

A MAN will spend at least 21 years in prison for stabbing a teenager to death in Shepparton, Victoria more than 30 years ago.

The ABC reported Queenslander Steven Bradley was arrested last year and charged with Michelle Buckingham's murder after the cold case was reopened in 2012.

The 16-year-old's body was found by the side of a country road two weeks after she disappeared in 1983.

Justice Robert Osborn said she had been stabbed at least 19 times in "an act of despicable cruelty".

Bradley was 21 at the time he murdered the teen.

During sentencing, Justice Osborn said Bradley had never shown remorse for his crime.
