25 years and still stocking

THE Warwick District Recreational Fish Stocking Association Inc is about one-quarter of the way through its stocking program for the 2011-2012 season, its 25th since inception in 1987.

On April 15, 2011, the association stocked 98,650 golden perch fingerlings into Leslie Dam from Granite Belt Fish Hatchery, owned by Nick Donges.

Andrew Shaw from Redgate Fish Hatchery delivered 40,000 golden perch on December 29, part of an order of 100,000 goldens this season for Leslie Dam from Redgate.

Mr Donges delivered 11,666 Murray cod fingerlings for Leslie Dam on Sunday plus 1700 Murray cod for the Condamine River.

The Condamine River has 12,963 goldens plus 1500 silver perch fingerlings yet to be delivered by the end of March.

There are 100,000 goldens on order from Mr Donges for Leslie Dam which are about 10mm long at the moment and should be ready for delivery at 50mm long in three to four weeks.

Leslie Dam will have a total of 298,650 goldens stocked this year, which will ensure good fishing for many, many years to come.
